Learn About Me!

My Story

My work history and personal experiences have influenced my journey in design. These have shaped my approach to solving user challenges in the field, which has allowed me to create intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences which cater to a diverse range of needs and overall satisfaction.

Problem Solving, management, and adaptability

At Zesty, a corporate catering company, I served as a team lead and manager. Here I learned the importance of adaptability amongst many moving pieces—whether it was dealing with late restaurant deliveries, missing trays of food, or adjusting for unexpected dietary requirements. These challenges exercised my problem-solving skills and flexibility. Qualities that I now practice when addressing accessibility barriers, usability challenges, and encouraging community engagement in my design work.

Mentoring and Training

Currently, I work as a music teacher, a role that allows me to witness the joy of children developing their skills and bonding with their families. This fulfilling experience motivates me to make a meaningful impact by helping others and celebrating their achievements. I strive to be approachable and supportive, ensuring that families feel comfortable sharing their progress and seeking assistance.

Communication and Collaboration

Outside of work, I have various hobbies that keep me active!  In addition to being a music teacher, I have a history of performative musicianship. I started in classical music and swiftly moved through many different genres. I’ve performed in Reggae, Jazz, Afro Cuban, Gospel, Funk, Rap, and Alternative Rock groups to name a few. Performing in these diverse groups taught me the importance of communication, preparation, and collaboration—skills that are essential in group projects for UX design. These experiences have helped me present my best self and work effectively within a team

Finding joy in the process

Another passion of mine is exploring the outdoors through Personal Electric Vehicles (PEVs). During COVID, I fell in love with the onewheel, a board-like device with a single wheel in the middle. I began in empty parking lots and eventually tackled mountain bike trails in Pacifica. This journey taught me the value of persistence, respect for the process, and finding joy in gradual progress. I now ride various PEVs with a community I’ve met, enjoying each new experience.

Looking forward

As an empathetic leader and communicator, I thrive on creating user-centric solutions through continuous improvement. Looking ahead, my long-term goal is to immerse myself in various aspects of the UI/UX field, contributing my expertise and leadership to a wide variety of projects. Ultimately, I aspire to learn from others and lead initiatives that push the boundaries of creativity and positively impact users worldwide.
